Crash

I want to ditch my job

forgo all responsibilities and be a bum

a knitting bum. Can I crash at your house?

I have a huge stash..... I will bring my own wheel. Just pile it all under a blanket it becomes me bed.

I don't really want to ditch Sonny. I kind of like her. Maybe I will be a mobile stash van. Stash bus....painted with polka dots.

Is polka like polka.

long days

It has been very long days....crabby long days.

I had a moment. An I got it moment. I never understood the term Mock cable...I was always like how can you knit a mock cable. You just cable why mock. BUT I Figured it out. light switch on.

I have not read, commented , or knitted in the last couple days.

Sonny and I did go to dye class today which was fun. But other than blue fingernails and a hair cut I have been busy.

and crabby, tired, and no knitting.....

I wonder if the stuff I dyed in class will be dry enough to spin when I get home?

The Kittens

This is what I walked in on this morning.

Kittens playing shadow puppets... Frankie can only do a scooby doo from this position.

Give me a scooby snack or I will chase you like I chase spiders. Yum.

Dead spiders have been found battered to death. I am very glad we do not have mice.

I mean business don't go in for a belly rub. Don't try and change the subject.

Frankie's one cat audience.

Class one

Class one ........Testing the waters. I dragged Sonny with me and most of these she made. I don't think she was super excited to be missing football and she had a rather tough week but I had a lot of fun going with her. Even if she made fun of my stash. She brings home pets I bring home yarn....You don't have to feed and bath yarn...It never has a vet bill.
Secretly I think she did have fun. We have two more classes to go. I don't think she is going to bail on me.

Back to the yarn.

The colors seem really bright and alive. But have muted and earthy tones in them as well. I like how the class was able to mix and match different dyes and not really come out with a clashy yarns.
This orange yellow coral mix is one I am really drawn to. Warm and cozy like.

We used a variety of dyes.....We had like nine or ten vats going I think. Some that I had heard of and others that were new.

The indigo was stunning to watch oxidize. These were all pre soaked with Alum I hope to be able to try a different one or two. So here you go. Natural dyed mini yarn bundles.

I am in LOVE with natrual dyeing.

Its wonderful.

Pictures will follow......someday.

Look finished item

I finished an item...A pair really. They were made out of some lovely jo sharp cotton in a dark rose shade. The pattern is Debbie Bliss with some modifications. Not a lot I made it with out bobbles and lace. If I were to make them again I would decrease in the front two corners a little more.
I am sure any mother would tell me these are silly but I think they are very cute.

The shaping is fantastic to me. How they turn into little shoes after some well placed increases.

Thanks everyone for the congratulations they were very warmly appreciated.

Knit with speed.

Clouds.

Ups have downs and like a cloud it rains.

So down came things.

But the good should be shared.

The good news yesterday.... Actually on the 16th. Sonny and I are "official" at least in Oregon. 95 cents to park, 8 minutes in line, 60 dollars, and a single piece of paper. Official domestic partners.

For some things this is great but for most it still doesn't count. The bonus for queer folk it only costs 25 dollars to get "divorced" and only one person has to sign the paper. They don't take your blood either.

For some reason I thought they would write your name in a big huge book with lots of other peoples names. There is not but I know where to pay my taxes in person now...Its the same window.

Lets knit.

BIg things

Big things have happend at the purl house.

I don't want to talk about them yet though. But all is good. Very good good things.

So instead I give you some happy pictures of my week and current sock.

Can you spot the Stevie Roo.

To much work...23 hours of work in 32 hours.

I am pooped.

I was hoping to get some knit in. But I ate a cookie and took a bath.

I feel a little better but my soft squishy bed with its nice new sheets are calling.

Yarn affair

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I have to confess I have a love for this yarn.
Do you fall in love with every new thing you spin.

Specks 260 yards of yummyness.
It's made of a mixed batt from the Oregon Flock and fiber. I know there is silk and I know there is merino

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I have not set the twist yet so its a little wonky. Very thick and thin spun than plyed with thread. Its not a yarn I would normally buy but I did enjoy spinning it.

There are some socks almost finished running around here. I was going to make them shorty socks but decided they needed a little more length. Next is another unfinished pair of socks then i can start a new pair if I want. The shawl has been banished to the bag of shame while I work on socks. It was not bad or ugly it just is so close to being done that it would ruin my rap to get it off the needles.

How long

How long do you look for a lost needle. A needle you had in your hand not five minutes ago.

I am sitting on the couch knitting and watching the tube. I have five sock needles while I am turning the heel. I get a phone call and put down the knitting. Finish my call and go get some tea. Come back to the knitting pick it up and am short one needle.

Suspects: Frankie was lying on the arm of the couch. Normal day time activities include putting anything shiny on the floor to bat around.

Shep is not guilty because he was a sleep on the back of the couch. Snoring.

Sesbastion is not guilty he followed me into the kitchen and has not been on the couch with the knitting all afternoon.

Cody was sleeping on the floor but being fairly large could be hiding something a smaller more agile pet could have passed him.

Turtle turtle and Whale can't be party to such happenings.

Everyone seems to have guilty eyes.

I spent a goodly amount of time questioning each suspect. GOODLY! All parties cleared after a good look see as the missing property was found.......Behind my ear.

Knit on.

Socks

Very Cool heels that people have posted....Specifically on different or modified short row heels.

This is so cool I have never thought of doing a short row this way. It has great pictures as well

Then this one fits my heel in a more heel like shape. You have to scroll down to the OCT 17 post.

The combination should be unstoppable...mwwwaaahhhaaaa.

I frogged my first half pair of socks. Mainly because I have no idea what needle I used and it had a cable in it that I did not chart on paper and could not remember the numbers. So I pulled back both socks so I am left just ready to turn the heel. I will let you know how these two combine...and maybe some pictures.

I may even venture over to knit purl. My car is in the shop (with my dad) so I am going on the bus. ADVENTURE

A meeting she will go a meeting she will go

Hi ho the Purling a Knitting she did go. I got to spend to short of time visiting with Marti from WeeBug Knits. I have been reading Marti's blog for a long time. She is one of the first blog peeps I have met. I super hope we get to knit together again. She showed me what she has been working on and is working on. Very pretty. A cool person to talk knit and sip drink with. If you get the chance I highly recommend it.

I like blogging but there is something really great about being able to talk with some one in person. I enjoyed the slinging around of fibery talk and life stuff. IT was great.

Thanks Marti I shan't be loosing your number!

I talked with Marti on the phone.....While she was on the train. On her way to Portland.

worky and knitting

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Sometimes all I need is just one row to feel a little calmer. So the knitting comes with. ALWAYS. I don't always pull it out but I do like having it with me.

So I found this LibriVox. Free Audio books. It meets my needs perfect. They have voluneteers read public domain books and let you download and listen to them for free. Very very very very cool beans.

Loving

So I am browsing around patterns because I can't knit at the minute but I can surf the web. While surfing I found this whole line of patterns that I really like. Not all of them but most of them. So I thought I would share them with you. Go see them all.

I am very fond of news boy, kago (but with different collar), These ( wouldn't they be cool in a shifting color yarn) , and the flirty ruffles scarf.

So reading along and the patterns are from a local shop...one I have just never been to. I may have to adventure outside my comfort shops.....

Wait...

My Alaska roll just rolled across my desk.....

Work was crazy. A little depressing even. Fridays are a long day for me. Friday is my Monday but also they day I take the bus to work. I get up around 730 and have to leave my house by 810 to park at the max park and ride. I ride max till about 910 where I catch a bus up the hill to start work by 10. Now I love to ride the bus and max but I work a ten hour shift. It is 810 pm by the time I am catching the bus back down the hill. I don't get home until a little after 930. So all in all my Friday is wiped out in a whorl wind of travel and work. The good thing is I can knit knit knit like crazy on the max.

I have less than 25 rows on my shawl and am through the first pattern on the fair Isle hat. Last week was not a knitting week. I need to be up to the decreases on the hat by next class and I want to finish the shawl. So I Can go SOCKTOBER crazy. Abundant Yarns is supposed to have a sock sale..... SOCKS>>>>>drool.

SO my long day is at its end and my sushi is finished.
Good night Dear Yarn Friends

That takes pictures....granted not great ones but hey its coool.

Wednesday, September 27, 2006

Very few words.

This is the yarn for my Fair Isle hat class. Not what I would normally choose but they will blend with Sonny's taste and scrubs. They remind me of a Portland Hippie and a woodland Gnome.

WEEKEND IN 3.5 HOURS

I am not counting or anything....Honest.

Its just that I went to the fiber fair and I want to play with what I got. I want to show you pictures and samples.... You know gab about what I got with someone who cares. But my camera is out of batteries and I am still at work.

There are several really wonderful things that I want to play with. I got a variety of different types of silk to try. Some for carding and mixing and some for dying. A silk cap, bombyx noil, silk hankies. I really wanted to find some fabulous bombyx silk to dye but I did not find any. But I know where to get it. I will play with my others first.

I also got this pretty pretty braid of merino silk It might have a third fiber but I can't double check at the minute. Its more muted tones than I would normally go for but the flow is very pretty. Pictures to follow when I get batteries.

One of my favorite things I learned about in my spinning class way back in March was about this company in MT that makes these prepackaged batts in all sorts of weird combos. One called Montana cowgirl that is purple and denim with little bits of this and that. The other is sinful tears and its this real hot reddish pink with highlights of silk. I want to rip them open and spin outta my bubble.

The only yarn I bought was blue moon fiber arts harlotty sock yarn in lightweight. I picked it out for socks for Sonny then put it back so she could pick out her own colorway....Daunting task when faced with a whole booth of colorways. She picked out the same one. Makes me smile. Its a green and yellow and brown combo.

Then lastly I got an item I have been coveting to dye....mohair locks. I would have loved kid mohair locks but will settle with youthful mohair locks. All white and fluffy not as soft as kid but close. Break out my dyes and get to cooking. These are very pretty locks no vm and already washed some are teased out a little but most are still clumpy but not hard.

Can you see why I am jumping to get home and play. Siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh. 3 hours and 10 min to go.
Pictures will follow...maybe tomorrow once I get my fix.

Question of celluar nature

Do we all own cell phones?

My house has two plus a house phone.

Thats a lot of phone calling to justify. LOTS.

I remember being a teen and calling people and talking for hours....I mean hours. But now every conversation is short sweet.

  • Need bread ok milk to ok love you see you later.
  • going to knitting be back before nine loves ya
  • yeah I can let the dogs out love you bye

I don't rmember the last time I had a more indepth conversation. I lie my mother can talk to me about nothing for hours. I don't remember what she is talking about sometimes but she has a nice voice to listen to.

So I have been listening to more then the phone recently. I have been listening to Cast On a lovely little pod cast. Quite nice to knit to a lovely mix of humor, music, and info.

try it.

Socks

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I have socks I want to finish and some I want to make...

At rest

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I don't want to put this down. I have less than forty rows to go. Since I have been dog sitting at a house with three channels and one fuzzy channel, I have watched a lot of movies. So I finished a fuzzy rainbow mohair scarf. It is very long....all three of the lord of the rings movie long.

Tomorrow I have my first fair isle class.

Yeah!

mEoW MeOw MEOW

Frankie is just hanging around.....Taking up his post under the piano bench but I guess is just

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

to heavy to hold up and he has to rest his chin on that bar. He is a needy needy cat. This is only one of several very odd new Frankie habbits.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

This blurry blob is supposed to be a pic of some stichmarkers and beads on top of my knitting. I had a run in with a dog toy...slimey dog toy. I am trying to decide what color beads I want to put on the bottom. I am thinking round and not bicone but the colors are the same in both. I am thinking the beads will help weight down the bottom and add a little sparkle....I am all for sparkle. The green seems to blend in the most which I think is good but if you hit the light it goes bam.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Whats I been spinning. My keyboard is black so the colors are a little skewed. Its a sea like greens and blues. I heart it.

Its raining and I heart that toooooo.

Sinking and shrinking

Sinking that's what I have been doing sinking into the Harry Potter books. Its true I had not read them...Even though Sonny has been bugging me to. SO we went on a beach trip the last weekend of august and I started....I just finished number 6 tonight. Ummmmm J.K. Rowlings hurry up and write some more....PLEASE. Do you know what happens when you google Harry Potter? Don't try it.

I used to read anything I could find. But as an adult staying up and reading 800 plus pages in two sittings is a little harder to do. I still do it but I don't have the ability to sleep through my job like I could math class. But reading a good book is so warm so comforting. I have moved enough that I have taken my rather large collection to the bare bones....It grows still but I haven't kept as many so so books for a while. I am very happy to add the Potter series to my trove. Finishing a book always makes me a little sad. I don't want to leave my friends or never find out how they turn out or end up. Its all in someone's head and I will never know what truly happens. Do you think authors have a final end for there characters in the end? Weather they write another book or not?

What do you think it is that makes a book so good that you want it to continue? I can't imagine having grown up not having read a zillion books as a child. Which is better the adult section or the young adult section of the library? I as a young adult could not stand the young adult section always went to the adult section now I have some of my favorite books that are young adult books.

What book have you stayed up all night to read? Most recently the Potter series but always Little Women has been my kicker.

I was so busy reading I did but knit half a row on my shawl tonight.....But now that I have finished those books I guess I get to press on. ...I am at the last of five repeats of a somewhat boring part of the shawl.

Are you a muggle or a witch?

Thursday, September 07, 2006

Little this little that....

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Knitting pretty good. Does not look like much...You know how lace looks when its not blocked. Scrumbble bumble all scroochy faced.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

looks a little better all spread out. Can you guess which shawl it is? The yarn is silk and quite lovely. Blue moon fiber creation. I went to the Farm house knit wed night knit night. It was a little different than the other knit nights I have gone to. They were all very nice. I hope to be able to go again. The person who dyed my yarn was there...in person I actually met her two nights in week.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

So other than making some really silly stitch markers. I was to lazy to go and find my base metal supplies so I used sterling...kindda silly but very pretty. This the necklace I made. It took a long time. But I got to wear it to a musical. Little Women...Very good muscial. You would not think it but I thought it was quite nice.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

And finally what has been spinning. Lots of spinning. This is a big bucket and its overfull. But I have had fun.

who....me?

Have you ever dreamed of falling.

Its a fit of maddness to try and catch your self. Being chased ... no....not even falling at break neck speeds. Its a crazy trap to fall but never find the bottom. I always wonder whats at the end. A bed of rose peatals, crocs, may be a nice nest of silk...I don't suppose it matters.

Just a bit of falling. Leaf from a tree that never finds a root.

Well I am not dead. I have not fallen. Nore have I stopped.

I am just at a point where I have no idea how you parents handle all this. I am not a parent but I know that most of you are. You have kids, jobs, lives and still find time to blog and knit. I seem to fail this timing issue. I can job...I have to job. I can knit or spin.....then the world holds still. Like piece of fruit in a jello mold. I bobble and worrble only to finally melt into a pile of gross overly sweet yuckyness.

News... I have lots of news. I have lots of thanks yous. I have not read my email in over a week..... That has to be a record.

The job is good. I am being trained and all sorts of stuff. My trainer is driving me mad with to much nit pick stuff. SO I say Apple instead of Adam. I am an individual....I might add that I am pretty good on a computor and feel very comfortable finding my way around. But with a new system it might take me a couple of trys to get to my destination. My trainer gives me no time.... Chill dude its new...I can find it...yeah I also know when the comp makes that beepy sound there is a prob. But some times that beepy sound just helps get the frustration out.

I am about 25 years my trainers junior....but I ain't a dumbass.

Sonny is good. We are painting our bedroom this weekend. I am painting our bedroom this weekend. Cause we bought a new bed. Its killer.

Other news....I bought a drum carder....Its lovely.

No pictures. Cause I have not taken a picute in months....really.

I am hoping to hope back on my daily comp time when things become more normal. Or I figure out a way to put 3 more hours in the day.

Till we knit again.
This is Miss Purl signing off for the night.
Sleep well!

not so knitty

well I have gone from 40 hours a week of reading blogs and buying yarn to...having to work.

I know not and excuse. But ...It is hard work learning new things ...nothing is second nature yet.

SIGHHHHHHHHH

so I spun a little. Played with my pretty bag, my lovely needle case, my yummy tea, looked at the purty cards...and all sorts of goodies. ...and the mug...and the yummies. soap. I am a spoiled rot who should be banned from such nice things.

now I am drinking a moolatte and trying not to go stare at the snowy white....WHITE hair that has sprouted in my mop of brown. WHITE..like WHITE.

SO I found it this morning....I then had to drink a dr pepper in rox honor because we were out of coke. Had nothing to do with anything other than she is the queen of DP.

now I am off to my MUM's House for her birthday.

still tired. Still here. but really was I ever here???

Thanxs ya'll!

hearts stars and a big pearly moon.

Its a little sad

Today is my last day at work.

Thru the 16th.....My Birthday I start a new job.

Its sad to leave and pack all my things up. I have been here for almost four years. July would have been 4.

Its silly I know and it will be exciting to start a new job...But you know scary.

So what have I been knitting???? Um..Knitting...What's that????

I have been doing some spinning and a little knitting but not enough to even show. I did clean out my locker and find three long lost knitting projects. One of them is so close to being finished. The other two are dunnos what they were. One will become a head scarf. The other is still a mystery as to what it was.

I need to find my Purl Snake yarn so I can get a move on. This new job has bus time which is perfect if you like to knit and ride. ME me me me.

In other exciting news

The Rock Star will be happy to know I am the proud owner of a microphone.
I have not seen it yet but I am busting that baby out as soon as I get home. Who knew Sock Stars had such cute accents.

I am a groupie

I so am a groupie....you know who you are Sock Star!!!!!
(loud screaming Knitters falling..........)

If you can't play with words whats the fun of it...

But you did not get this in the mail.

Whats inside those cute little bundles......
Well I promised myself I would not open them until I had my Overseas mail out the door in the box and well on its way to there perspective peeps.

You will be happy to know...I did that promptly.
Its not that I don't want to send stuff overseas because I do..... Its the paper work and my mean post office that gets me down. Plus I always want to find more and the perfect stuff. I know I don't always hit my mark but I do try. Then when I get it all done and packed I find stuff I wanted to send...Organization is not my strong suit.

But now my camera is outta batteries.
Shucks...but they jinggled when you shook them.
I know what they are and you don't....teee heee heee.

Thanks Shannon

Spinning Class

Spinning Class ......

I went to spinning class. I had a rocking good time. I spun very vool yarn.

Let me share.

This is what I spun at spinning class. Its a mixture of several different fibers. The brown is alpaca and wool and the pink fluffy stuff is from a batt. I have never spun from a batt before this one had all sorts of bit in it. Which made my normal spinning take on a whole life of its own. I like it. It reminds me of three things. A) It reminds me of Donni B) It reminds me of a Rock star C) It reminds me of chocolate covered gum drops.

Extreme close up in bad light.

My teacher is a hoot and I am so very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very

Excited to have taken this class. We are going to learn all these cool things. And I am going to be around people that know what I am talking about and wanna talk with me. Oregon and Portland have groups of spinners...Groups. yeah Excited.

The part of my spinning that is not pictured is made of this. Another batt different colors and so funky. I can't wait to spin more and ply it.

YEAH.

Rox I will let you know more about the job once I come down from my spinning excitement. I so feel like busting out the dyes....but I am so tired.

Loves.

I hate to blog and run but blogger is having issues. OR it really hates me.

But I am still knitting...slowly.

But I have a little bit of news.

I HAVE A NEW JOB!

Sadly I will miss the other.

But new is good.

Second. My sweet lovable Sonny informed me that we............have adpoted another dog.

Bringing the grand total to 4....as in FOUR.

I have yet to meet Angus but I will have all the good the bad and the doggie later.
Why I am so gone from blogger land all the sudden.

Cause I did this.

Miss Purl - You have to love Donni for the name!

Dork I know but its fun.

So I will be back on track soon..cause my attention span is o about a minute long.

Lots of knitting spinning, sewing, crafting thoughts.

ITs a test...Modified for journal use...duh

At the end of this message, you are asked a question. Answer it immediately. Don't stop and think about it. Just say the first thing that pops into your mind. This is a fun "test"... AND kind of spooky at the same time!

You'll understand what that means after you finish taking the test". Now... just follow the instructions as quickly as possible. Do not go to the next calculation before you have finished the previous one.. You do not ever need to write or remember the answers, just do it using your mind. You'll be surprised.

Start: How much is: 15 + 6

3 + 56

89 + 2

12 + 53

75 + 26

25 + 52

63 + 32

I know! Calculations are hard work, but it's nearly over.. Come on, one more! 123 + 5

You just thought about a red hammer! ,

didn't you?

If this is not your answer, you are among 2% of people who have a different, if not abnormal, mind. 98% of the folks would answer a red hammer while doing this exercise. If you do not believe this, pass it around and you'll see. Be sure to put in the subject line if you are among the 98% or the 2% and send to everyone, including the person that sent it to you.

leave me a comment of what you were.
