Holiday Jelly

Pomegranate, Orange, Cranberry, Quince Jelly (yummy)
approx 3 pomegranate
1lb cranberries
2 largish quince
and some Orange Juice all together 4 cups juice (mixture of above fruits)
Optional 1 orange for a more marmalade style jelly
4 cups water
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
7-1/2 cups sugar
Optional 1/2 tsp. butter or margarine
1 Fruit Pectin pouch
three layers of cheese cloth

Prepare Fruit - Gather seeds of pomegranate, remove cores from quince and finely chop (food processor works well) , rinse cranberries and remove any stems. If you want the marmalade style use a food chopper and finely chop the peeled orange ( but don't combine the orange with the rest of the fruit).

Combine pomegranate, cranberry, and quince with the 4 cups water and bring to a boil then let simmer for 15 min -30 min. The water should be a pretty red color. Place cheesecloth over a bowl and strain fruit through. I find this takes a while and that squeezing helps.
Prepare for canning. This is from the certo website.

BRING boiling-water canner, half full with water, to simmer. Wash jars and screw bands in hot soapy water; rinse with warm water. Pour boiling water over flat lids in saucepan off the heat. Let stand in hot water until ready to use. Drain well before filling.

Using the strained juice and adding OJ make 4 cups juice. It varies depending on the fruit as to how much OJ you need. Put into a large saucepan and add the lemon juice 1/4 cup ( if you heat up a whole lemon in the microwave it yields more juice. Just don't burn yourself)For the marmalade style jelly add your orange bits now.

Once again we go to the certo directions

STIR sugar into juice in sauce pot. Add butter to reduce foaming, if desired. Bring mixture to full rolling boil (a boil that doesn't stop bubbling when stirred) on high heat, stirring constantly. Stir in pectin. Return to full rolling boil and boil exactly 1 minute, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and skim off foam with metal spoon.

LADLE immediately into prepared jars, filling to within 1/8 inch of tops. Wipe jar rims and threads. Cover with 2-piece lids. Screw bands tightly. Place jars on elevated rack in canner. Lower rack into canner. (Water must cover jars by 1 to 2 inches. Add boiling water, if necessary.) Cover; bring water to gentle boil. Process 5 minutes. Remove jars and place upright on towel to cool completely. After jars cool, check seals by pressing middle of lid with finger. (If lid springs back, lid is not sealed and refrigeration is necessary.)

I love this jelly!
The color is wonderful!

New. . . More new

New fun markers in my shop. This set is Lizzy, or Elizabeth Bennett. I picked the colors of the pearls at the last gem show I went to. I Made a Jane and Kitty set as well. Only now am I realizing that Kitty is really Lydia and I have made an error. AHHHHH. I wonder who will notice? I will fix it but maybe I will leave it up for a week and see if some one tells me. You never know.
A view of my More new box. Some of these will never get listed and many of them will only ever go to a fiber or knit show. Two weeks or so before a knit show this box is much fuller. If you go digging though the box you often find what colors I have been most drawn to recently. Lots of orange recently and sea opal blue.
Enjoy and let me know what you think of Kitty aka Lydia. I am a dork.

I spin you spin we spin

Just a little of what I have been spinning up. The colors do not look as great in my picture as they do on the wheel. I have about 120 yards. I am not sure what I am going to make. The color fades from great greens to lush purples and velvety blue.

Give me Stirpes

I am on a kick to find the perfect sock yarn. What does it need?

It needs to be be in shades of green and gray and it needs to stripe.

Why these colors? It is all because of Studiorent's beads. I have some and they really are quite lovely. But this set of beads is setting me in a spin.

If you know where I can find this colorway please let me know. I am in a desperate search....and I am not unwilling to dye it myself. Stringing yarn for stripes is always fun for my cats.

My Goals

My Goals are half done.

House work has been added. I groan at housework even though I know it needs to be done.

Can I get house Faries to clean my house? Ones I never have to see they just do it while I sleep?

Back to work.

Hearts.

I also have at least five sets of my new stitch markers to take pictures of and list.
Two holiday shows to apply for. The handmade Nw show at pioneer sq and the DaVinci show at DaVinci.
I also have a little paper work to finish.
Three packages to mail off.
Ready set GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Back to Fall

Fall is here again. The trees out side my house are no longer green but yellow. YELLOW. When did that happen? It seems way to early for trees to become naked.

One of the many great things about Fall is Halloween. Sonny has Halloweened the house already. There are witches, pumpkins, and black cats adorning walls all over the house. Makes me want to knit a black spider web....I wonder if there is a pattern for that?

Enjoy the day!

Little Things

Little things have kept me away.

I keep thinking I will have a few min to sit down and update the blog and my website. It just keeps getting away from me. I have been spending a lot of time working... and of all the crazy things knitting.

I pulled out a couple really old projects that have just been sitting waiting for years. I also went though my knit, dye, fiber library. I love books. I can not part with a one of them. Some of them are old, but the info inside has not changed. I even found a stitch dictionary with all sorts of unique stitch patterns. Not one or two styles of shell pattern, there has to be 7.

Such wonders.
