Is it ok
I am cabling with multi colored yarn. I know that the cables don't show up they just kind of blend in. But I like to knit them. Is that allowed to just knit a cable because you want to. You can tell it is a cable up close. I think it is ok.
I knit for enjoyment rather then gratification or at times beauty. Not everything I knit comes out pretty or wonderful. Some felted items have been really hideous but the process was enjoyable.

Don't worry--I'll keep guard by your door and won't let the knitting police in. Knitting is supposed to be about what you like, so go for it. No rights or wrongs. >
Of course its okay. I've got a multi coloured yarn I plan to knit reversably cabled - as if you'll be able to tell. LOL! >
One of the things I love so much about knitting is there (basically_ is no right or wrong. If you enjoy it, and are happy with your results, you can knit banana leaves into serving platters! It's about how you feel and what you think =) >
